Boat transfer or sightseeing tour on Lake Como: which one do you need?
2 November 2026 · 4 min read

Two questions that decide it
Guests often ask for "a boat to Bellagio" when they mean two very different things. One person wants to move themselves and their bags from one place to another. Another wants an hour or two on the water and to end up back where they started. Two questions settle it: do you need to finish somewhere other than where you boarded, and is the journey itself the point of the day? The answers decide whether you need a transfer or a sightseeing tour, and they change how the trip is planned and priced.
What a sightseeing tour is
A sightseeing tour is a round trip. You choose a tour or duration, a boarding point and a free departure time, and the booking page shows when you will be back. The route is designed for looking: villas and villages seen from the water, at a pace that suits photographs. The booking page shows the price for your selected duration, group size and pickup, with a deposit payable online. A tour does not include stopping to visit villas or dropping anyone in another town unless that has been agreed in advance.
What a transfer is
A transfer is about getting from one point to another: from a hotel to a restaurant, from Como to a villa for an event, or between two lakeside towns on a travel day. It can be one way, or include a pickup later on. Because the route, the waiting time and whether the boat must return empty all affect the work involved, transfers are not sold through the tour calendar. You send a request with the pickup point, drop-off point, date, preferred time, number of guests and luggage, and we reply personally with availability and a price.
Request a private boat transfer →Luggage and hotel landings
If you are moving between hotels, say how many suitcases and what size. Space on a classic wooden boat is limited, and luggage should never be assumed to fit without asking. Hotel and villa landings are a second question: some have private piers, some use a public landing nearby, and access to a private pier needs confirmation from the property. Tell us exactly where you are staying, and we will say which landing is realistic rather than promising a door-to-door arrival.
Combining the two
Some guests want both: a transfer to their next hotel with some sightseeing on the way. Say so clearly in the request, because a route with time for looking is longer than the direct crossing. If the transfer is part of a wedding day, mention the schedule of the ceremony and guest arrivals so timings can be checked together. If plans may change on the day, for example a dinner that could run late before a return crossing, say so in advance: a realistic time window is easier to arrange than a last-minute change.
How to book each one
For a round-trip sightseeing tour, use the booking page: choose the tour first, then a date and time that are actually free, and review the total, the 30% deposit and the balance before paying. For a one-way trip, a drop-off elsewhere or anything involving luggage, use the transfer request form instead. If you are unsure which you need, the FAQ answers common questions about boarding and timing.
