Lunch and a Lake Como boat tour: before, after or a stop ashore?
4 November 2026 · 3 min read

Decide whether lunch is part of the boat outing
A table by the lake and a private cruise can make a lovely day together, but they are two bookings with different timing. Start with one question: do you want to eat before or after your tour, or step off the boat for lunch during it? For a couple spending a few hours in Como, eating on land after a short cruise can keep the day simple. For guests who want a longer outing with time in a lakeside village, a planned shore stop may suit better. Decide which version you want before choosing the tour duration.
Short panoramic cruise: keep lunch on either side
VABA's current one- to four-hour tour options are described as panoramic, without a landing ashore. Plan your meal before boarding or after the tour returns, rather than adding a restaurant stop to a sightseeing booking. The one-hour Como villas cruise and the two-hour Villas and Nesso Waterfall tour are useful options to compare if you want the boat to be one part of the day. Seeing a village from the water does not mean you will disembark there. Pick a restaurant that fits your actual boarding and return area, rather than a place that happens to appear on the route.

The current five-hour Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio tour includes time ashore, with restaurant booking available on request. Its total duration covers the outing, including navigation and agreed stops; it is not five hours of cruising plus an unlimited lunch break. Before committing to a restaurant during the tour, settle the village, usable landing, time ashore and return plan with VABA. Then confirm the restaurant reservation. A longer tour does not automatically reserve a table, grant access to a private jetty or include the restaurant bill. Meals are separate from the boat fare.

For lunch after the cruise, start with the boat's displayed return time and allow room for disembarking, getting to the restaurant and any delay. A table booked for the exact minute the tour ends leaves no margin. For lunch before boarding, check that the restaurant can serve you within your available time, and leave enough time to reach the agreed meeting point without rushing. Do not assume that a late meal moves your departure. For a meal during a longer outing, share the table time before confirming the plan so navigation, docking and the return can be considered together.
Check the restaurant for your November date
Before fixing the day around a meal, check the restaurant's own current information for your exact date and confirm its lunch service and reservation arrangements directly. An old travel guide or a photograph of a waterfront terrace is not confirmation that a table or landing is available. Ask the restaurant about dietary needs, children's meals or indoor seating if these matter to your group. Separately, check VABA's booking and weather terms. A boat reservation and a restaurant reservation have their own conditions; do not assume a change to one automatically changes or refunds the other.
Book the cruise that matches your plan
For a panoramic tour with lunch before or afterwards, choose your tour online, set your guests and pickup, select an available date and departure time, then review the return time, total, deposit and balance before paying. If lunch ashore is an essential part of a longer outing, confirm that arrangement first, then complete the agreed boat booking. Keep a short plan with the boarding point, departure, expected return and restaurant details. Once those pieces fit together, you can enjoy the scenery without trying to organise the next part of the day from the boat.
